Aluminium Restrained Range
Designed for Non-Ex pump and tunnelling projects, as well as metalliferous and open-cut mining, KonNx UK’s Aluminium Restrained Range is a lightweight and cost-effective low voltage option.
In order to make them easily identifiable as Non-Ex products, plugs and receptacle castings within this range have been painted in a stark, bold white. Coloured stripes have been used to categorise the voltage rating of each product, with black and white stripes also used if a range offers more then one amp rating. Giving our customers further clarity and peace of mind when identifying each product, ‘Non-Ex’ labels and laser marks on components have also been added.
Products in this range include the:
- AES (Aluminium Extra Small) – covers 60 & 90 amps, with phase rotation to give 660 or 1100 volts;
- AS (Aluminium Small) – covers 150 amps, with phase rotation to give 660 or 1100 volts;
- AL (Aluminium Large) – covers 300 – 425 amps, with phase rotation to give 660, 1100 or 3300 volts.
AS and AL products are manufactured with a durable stainless steel cage inside of an aluminium body casting, offering the same durability as their stainless steel counterparts. By using aluminium and stainless steel in our AES, AS and AL plugs and receptacles, this restrained range is lighter than our purely stainless steel products, with:
- AES plugs weighing in at 560 grams lighter and the receptacles at 2.36kg lighter than PES products;
- AS plugs weighing in at 360 grams lighter and the receptacles at 3.9kg lighter than PS products; and
- AL plugs weighing in at 1.04kg lighter and the receptacles at 4.36kg lighter than PL products.
Using aluminium as an alternative to stainless steel in the manufacturing process has also resulted in reduced production costs, allowing us to pass these cost reductions on to the Non-Ex industry. In order to assist Non-Ex operational sites wishing to transition from our international stainless steel range to aluminium, all KonNx UK’s products in our aluminium restrained range are compatible the stainless steel product of matching rating.
While AES receptacles are only available with the Jack-In Release option, AS and AL receptacles are available in all three release options: Jack-In, Quick, and Ratchet. All three receptacles can also be supplied as a Receptacle Gland Bracket (RGB).
Features of the products in this range include full phase to phase segregation with earth, easy termination, single piece contacts and full solid earth connectivity throughout. The easy to remove outer body of these products also enables easier maintenance and ensures continued reliability. Additionally, these products can also be purchased with a durable silicon cover for the plugs and an O-ring sealed bung for the receptacles.
